Terry's Rod an Reel Repair
It all started around 4:30 PM. Mike was late, but wait let me back up to the beginning........
Mike (an ex-Army MP NCO) an me (Terry an Ex-Army Chemical NCO) have been fishing for about a year now. He has come a long way, Making his own
leaders, casting his net and pole. I still remember our first fishing trip, He got all excited with a few little croakers, I assured him that there are
bigger fish. Well over the past year we have caught everything that Keith lake, Sabine Lake and the Jetties have to offer (day an night). Mike has
turned into a great fishing Friend so I called him up and asked him to go fishing,
and the Gar story begins.........

I called Mike up on Thursday and we planed a Saturday Night trip, we would try out North Sabine lake and work the birds and then try a new spot for
Gar or what every would bite on cut bait. The Day started of like always, each bragging on who would be the top angler. As we approached our First spot
(working the birds) we both hooked on to some great fish, (Mike a few REDS ) an (Me a Few Trout). With dark setting on we started for a spot to
spend the night fishing.
I had per-plained where I was going but for some reason I changed my location. (Don't ask me where) We dropped anchor and started fishing, within a
few minutes I hooked onto a large Gar, and we both got excited at that exact time my other pole got a bite (Mike was upfront getting disgusted his
pole was limp due to no action)  Unfortunately the Gar got off before I got him to the boat and the other line had a hard head. I baited back up and
casted out and within minutes I got a call on the Ambassaduer 6000 it was the president and he said Mike was having Gar for Dinner. I had no problem
knowing that I was hooked onto some big, at least 75 yards of line spooled off. After what seamed like a life time We got our first look. After a few
four letter words we both gained our composure and set our minds on the task ahead of us.
Mike started to get all other rods out of the water and he got the gaff ready, What was we thinking this beast was just short of 7 feet. We had
problems getting a 4 and 5 foot gar gaffed. Well any way we were gonna get this one, one way or another. After a few trips back and forth the gar was
getting tried. I yelled at Mike, " Get the F*****G gaff ready hes coming up!" just then he broke the surface, and Mike damn near S**T his pants. Did I
mention this fish was almost 7 feet that just under have the length of my 18 ft boat. There was no way this fish was coming in the boat on a gaff alive.
We both kinda looked at each other, with that look in our eyes, like what the f**k do we do.  Just then the fish took off behind the boat. Knowing what
Mike keeps in this tackle box (other than the pink shirt that says he fishes like a girl) I told, "get your gun!" You would have thought he just won the
lottery, With the glare of a ex-MP and a 10 mile wide grin he took less than a second to confirm my request, and even less time to have the gar in his
sights. I gave Mike a quick set of request ( Don't shoot me or the boat, and aim between his eyes) Mike pulled the trigger. The gar did one barrel roll
then went belly up. It took both of us to pull the gar in the boat, but that was only fitting, since I caught him and Mike shot him. Over all the gar
measured out at APPROX 6ft 11in, and 160LBS.

The age old question stands, "Dose size really matter?" To me it doesn't,  "No matter a 4in Croaker or a 83in Gar, spending a day fishing with a good
friend is what really matters.

Thanks Mike
